چکیده

where θ is the density of impurities, μθ the collisional diffusivity, and ζ = mθ qθ e mi ρs Ln the influence of inertia, which enters via the polarization drift. The latter makes the flow compressible, consequently for ideal (massless) impurities, ζ = 0 and advection is due to the incompressible electric drift only. In all cases the impurity density is assumed to be so low compared to the bulk plasma density that there is no back-reaction on the bulk plasma dynamics.

with τe being the electron collision time. nEQ is an equilibrium density associated with neoclassical fields and currents. K (nEQ) =−∇qJPS, which in turn is driven by the corresponding neoclassical potential JPS = 1 C (φPS). The contribution of impurities to the gross plasma density ni,0 is assumed to be negligible, i. e. ni = ni,0+nimp ≈ ni,0. For cold impurities the ion-drift velocity is give...

Impurity and trace tritium transport in tokamak edge turbulence.

The turbulent transport of impurity or minority species, as for example tritium, is investigated in drift-Alfvén edge turbulence. The full effects of perpendicular and parallel convection are kept for the impurity species. The impurity density develops a granular structure with steep gradients and locally exceeds its initial values due to the compressibility of the flow. An approximate decompos...

Cross-field Particle Transport in the Edge Plasma of Tokamak Experiments and Implications for ITER Operation

Particle transport in the edge plasma and scrape-off layer will play a key role in the performance and operation of a tokamak fusion reactor: setting the width of the scrape-off layer density profile and its impurity screening characteristics, regulating the energetic particle fluxes onto first-wall components and associated impurity generation rates, and determining the effectiveness of the di...

Transitions of turbulence in plasma density limits

A series of BOUT @X. Q. Xu et al., Phys. Plasmas 7, 1951 ~2000!# simulations is conducted to investigate the physical processes which limit the density in tokamak plasmas. Simulations of turbulence in tokamak boundary plasmas are presented which show that turbulent fluctuation levels and transport increase with collisionality. At high edge density, the perpendicular turbulent transport dominate...
